Max Raymond Finley

Price, UT-Max Raymond Finley, age 91 passed away on January 16, 2013 in Elmo, Utah. He was born on February 18, 1921 to Lewis Stanley and Hattie Hickman Finley in Castle Dale, Utah. He grew up in the town of Morland and the family later moved to Hiawatha. Max excelled in track and basketball in High School. He married Vera Denison on October 17, 1942. He had to leave her shortly thereafter to serve in the Armed Forces during World War II. He landed on Utah Beach on D-Day. During his time in the service he earned the Purple Heart and other distinguished medals.
After returning home, he and Vera began raising their family in Hiawatha. Max was a master electrician there and also later, when the family moved to Price. He loved the mountains and loved to hunt and fish with his family. Together with Vera, they published the book "Wildflowers of Castle Country". He photographed the flowers and together they finished the text. The book has blessed many homes and businesses throughout several states. He won many prizes for his beautiful photography. He also wrote "Softly Spoken" his memories of his time during World War II.
He loved to write and will be remembered for his very entertaining short stories, both true and fictional.
He is survived by his children: Stanton (Michelle) Finley, of Centerville, Utah, Randall (Jill) Finley, of Herriman, Utah, and Shannon (Gail) Hamilton, of Duchesne, Utah, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank his many friends, neighbors, and caretakers, who took such an interest in him and gave him much love and care for the last several years of his life and to the Elmo Beehive staff who lovingly cared for him during his last days.
Graveside services will be held Monday, January 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Cliffview Cemetery in Price, Utah (2100 East 800 North). Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Family and friends may sign the guest book and share memories of Max at www.fausettmortuary.com.

Hiawatha Day will be held 17 August 2013 in the Price, Utah City Park. We will be located next to the Wave Pool where we have been for the past several years. For those who have asked about motel's; Yes there are several motels in Price. You can google Price, Utah Motels and there is a list.
The reunion usually gets started by the early birds about 10:00 AM and people stay and eat and visit as long as you want, which is usually about 4:00 PM. Thanks to Helen Segua for getting the reservation and passing the information along. Hope to see a lot of perople there.  WALLY
