1928-2016

Shoro Budo, son of Toraichi Budo and Torachiyo Araii, passed away surrounded by his family on August 2, 2016. He was born September 3, 1928 in Mohrland, Utah. He was raised in Hiawatha, Utah. Started school at Carbon College in Price Utah where he later met his wife Lois Christianson whom he was married to for 61 years.. Shoro served his country during World War II as a member of the occupying forces in Japan and later was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington during the Korean War. Following his military service he attended Utah State University, where he played football and earned a BS in geology. Some years later, with a wife and 3 kids, went back to school and earned his Master’s degree specializing in Hydrogeology from the University of Arizona. His work as a hydrogeologist took him to different parts of the world including Kabul, Afghanistan and Cochabamba, Bolivia. This love of travel and exploring different cultures has been passed on to his children. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and served in various capacities. He worked with the youth and the Boy Scout program, served as a temple worker and had the wonderful opportunity to serve three missions with his wife in Okayama, Japan and the Deseret Ranch near Orlando, Florida. Shoro enjoyed all types of sports and he as an avid runner. He completed 13 marathons and one of his most memorable experiences was participating in the Boston Marathon at the age of 61. Shoro will be dearly missed by friends and family. He is survived by his wife Lois and children Jan, Chris and Tami Budo. A graveside service will be held in his honor in Spanish Fork Utah on Saturday August 6, 2016 at 11:00 am

LaRue Spigarelli Obituart-Printed in Sun Advocate

LaRue Spigarelli was born in Scofield, Utah on May 3, 1935 to Jennie and John Jarvi. She passed away on August 9, 2016 after enduring Multiple Sclerosis for over 25 years. She spent her life in church and family service. She was loved by all who knew her, and, in spite of the trials and pains of MS, she rarely complained. LaRue was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jack. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (John Thomas) Jorgensen, her grandchildren, Madison, Arden and Gabriel; her sisters Melba (Bob) Henderson and Marjorie (Dave) Paur, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Price 10th Ward building Saturday, August 13 at 3:00 p.m. Interment at Cliff View Cemetery.

Jennie Colosimo obit notice

ST. GEORGE/PRICE- Jennie Kolovich Colosimo, age 94, passed away on August 5, 2016   in St. George, UT.
 She was born in Mohrland, UT on August 2, 1922 to Mike and Julia Svilar Kolovich.

She and her husband, John Colosimo, lived for many years in Hiawatha.

Jennie was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Hiawatha Youth Organization. She loved to go for rides, especially up in the mountains.  She never passed up a chance to go fishing or out to breakfast. She loved to dance.

Survived by her children, John (Toni), Portland, OR, Gloria (Errol), Virgin, UT and Frank (Cindy), Mount Juliet, TN; grandchildren, Dina, Kim, Katie and Lisa Colosimo, Trent (Jennifer) Hohrein, and great grandchildren Wyatt, BreeLynn and Ella; cherished nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Milka and Mary, brothers Joe, Mike, Eli and Jimmy.

Graveside service, Thursday, August 11, 2016, 10:00 a.m., Price City Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Mitchell Funeral Home on Thursday one hour prior to the graveside. Paul Clavell Obit Notice

1927 ~ 2016
South Jordan, UT-Paul Raymond Clavell, 89, passed away on August 2, 2016, at his home in South Jordan, UT, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 15, 1927, in Mohrland, UT, to Felix and Nellie (Beveridge) Clavell. Paul served in WWII in the Army Air Corps as a chief mechanic on B-29 aircraft. He married the girl of his dreams, Arlene Peterson. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple and were blessed with four children, and adopted others through love. Paul worked at Jordan Builders Supply in West Jordan for more than 35 years. He truly enjoyed people, and his love and sense of humor brought others to love him. He loved fishing and teaching his children and grandchildren to fish. Paul served faithfully in the LDS Church and remained dedicated to his faith all of his life. He lived well, died peacefully, and is now reunited with his beloved wife. He is survived by his children Susan, Paula (Rod Thorstrom), Denise (John Bass), Richard "Skip" (Julie Jorgensen), Maria "Tochi" (Kelvin Green), Reiko Ise, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. (Dad always said all of his grandchildren are "great.") Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 6th at 11 AM, at the LDS church building, 4881 W. Cindy Lane (9600 So.), South Jordan, UT, with viewings Friday, August 5th, 6 PM to 8 PM and Saturday from 10 AM to 10:45 AM at the same location.

Lorraine Self-Mathis Obituary

January 3, 1928 ~ July 16, 2016
Lorraine passed away peacefully in the early-morning hours of July sixteenth. Born to Lloyd and Belle Black in Hiawatha, Utah, she lost her mother when just eleven years of age. In the midst of the Great Depression, she cared for four younger siblings, the youngest of whom was not yet two. She finally gave up on her own schooling at fourteen.
She wed a handsome Air Force cadet, David A. Self, Jr., when just sixteen. Moving about every two years, she gave birth to Larry in Panama, Sande in Louisiana, Greg in New Mexico and Jennifer in Nevada. She and David divorced, after which she traveled all over Europe, visiting castle ruins of ancient ancestors in Scotland and the humble home of those in Northern Ireland who joined the LDS Church and came to Nauvoo, Illinois. She had a special love for England.
She later married Henry Mathis in the Jordan River Temple. Her dearest wish has been to see her mother again, but in the ensuing years, she lost her father, her husband, both sons, a grandson and a daughter. She is enjoying a glorious reunion with the many loved ones who preceded her in death.
Lorraine is survived by daughter Sande (Jim) Bell; siblings Don (Terry), Bruce and Bill (Claudya) Black and Elaine (Lynn) Eatchel; twelve grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Private services are to be held to honor her life.

Grant Babcock Obit

HELPER- It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Sheldon Grant Babcock on July 10, 2016 after a long illness. Grant was a devoted son, husband, dad, best grandpa, great grandpa, and friend to many.

He was born on April 10, 1929 in Hiawatha, Utah to Vardes Andrew Babcock and Mary Albertson Babcock. He grew up in Castle Gate (Willow Creek), Utah and graduated from Carbon High School in 1947, and the College of Eastern Utah in 1948.

He married Lorraine Chesnik on June 30, 1950. They lived, loved, laughed and danced together for the following 66 years. She was his sweet Lorraine to the very last day. They became parents to a beloved son, David, and cherished daughter, Shelly.

Grant had a great interest in automobiles. He followed his dad into the coal mining industry to buy his first car. He was a proud member of the UMWA, and served as a moderator between labor and management for many years. He was the last survivor of a mine explosion, which claimed the lives of nine of his friends and co-workers on December 16, 1963. After serving on the rescue team for two days he walked away, never to return again. In 1965 he established his own business, Grant’s Distributing Company, and managed it successfully for the next 32 years.

He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and snowmobile riding with family and friends. Grant was a life member of the Price Elks Lodge #1550. He served every chair office and was elected Exalted Ruler in 1965-66, during the lodge’s glory days with 900 members. He also served on the Board of Trustees for 20 years, guiding the principles of the lodge and supporting community charities. Grant lived by their code of Charity, Justice, Fidelity, and Brotherly Love. For 50 years, he placed the Elks Memorial flags on deceased member’s graves at the Helper Cemetery, because an Elk member is never forgotten.

Grant was a gentle man who had the ability to build or repair everything and anything including a broken toy or a broken heart. One of his most enjoyable hobbies was automobiles. He owned many and was an expert mechanic. His favorite was a 1930 Ford Model A Roadster, which he restored to perfection with his son. He was a member of the Pair-A-Dice Car Club and won numerous trophies at car shows.

He and Lorraine were honored as Grand Marshalls of the Helper Christmas parade in 2004, which was great fun. He was a member of the S.N.P.J. Lodge #689 in Helper and served as President for 30 years from 1986 to 2016. He was co-chairman of the Slovenian Day Picnic for 25 years.

After he retired, he and Lorraine traveled the world from Hawaii to Rome, and Canada to Mexico, and many great places along the way, but his favorite place was their home at 5th Avenue in Helper, among his friends and loving family.

Survived by his wife, Lorraine; son, Dave (Gaye) Babcock, Spring Glen; daughter, Shelly (Jim) Stephenson, Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Michelle (Sam) Slaughter, Stefanie (Dave) Mumford, Chas (Emily) Morris, and Jenna-Raine Morris; six great granddaughters, Cheyanne, Ashlyn, Kaydi Jo, Faith Marie, Isabella Raine, Mackenna; one great grandson, William Grant.

He was the last leaf on his family tree. Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill and Frank; two sisters, Leona Coles and Vivian Laursen; his loving in-laws, Joe, Jennie, and JoAnn Chesnik Couch.

Dad was deeply loved and admired. We shall miss him every moment until we meet again. How sweet it is to love and be loved.

Funeral Mass, Thursday, July 14, 2016, 10:00 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service, Wednesday evening, 8:00 p.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church.
