Byrnell Cowan was born to live out his life in Hiawatha.  These are some of things I remember about him.

He was the drummer for the Hiawatha school marching band.
He started  working as a "bony picker" at the tipple.
He attended Carbon College for a year.
He  joined the navy  during World War II.
He went to Montana after the war to be a cattle rancher and make his fortune.  (It lasted for about a year).
He married Mona Reaveley and had two children - Jerry and Rhonda.
He had a dry sense of humor.
He played the piano by ear.
He was a "dedicated deer hunter" but never ate the meat.
                      He liked nice cars.
He would never bathe in the bathhouse.
He spent all of his working year on or around the tipple for US Fuel. .
