Jerel “Jerry” Cowan

OGDEN/PRICE- Jerel “Jerry” B. Cowan, age 66, died Thursday, January 8, 2015.
He was born January 20, 1948 in Price, Utah, the first child of Byrnell and Ramona Reaveley Cowan. Jerry was raised in Hiawatha, Utah and graduated from Carbon High School in 1966. He graduated from Utah State University with a certificate in Aerospace Mechanics.
Jerry married Sherrie Patterick, but they were later divorced. He married Deborah Green on July 21, 1977 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Jerry joined the Marines and served honorably in Vietnam from December 2, 1967 to December 15, 1968. He received the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat “V”. Upon returning from Vietnam, Jerry returned to Hill Air Force Base and worked there for thirteen years. Jerry returned to his hometown of Hiawatha and became the Town Marshal. He later became a Carbon County Deputy Sheriff and served two years as the Chief Deputy. He retired as a police officer with 22 years of service. Jerry’s interests included hunting, riding motorcycles, fast cars, spending time at his cabin and going for long walks. Jerry was a wonderful father and grandfather who will be missed by his children, grandchildren and extended family that will miss him.
Survived by his wife, Deborah, South Weber; two daughters, Misty Dawn and Shawnbre Blaz; six grandchildren, Alex, Zack, Mercedes, Jake Jerry, Damien and Adrien Blaz.
Preceded in death by parents, and his sister, Rhonda Bogdin.
Funeral service, Wednesday, January 14, 2015, 1:00 p.m. Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will receive friends Wednesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Wellington City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of Jerry online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
