Betty Marakis Elkin Obit Notice

Betty Marakis Elkin

Our beloved Betty Elaine Elkin went home to be with the Lord on May 23, 2013. She was born Jan. 2, 1931 in Hiawatha to loving parents Mike and Annie Marakis. Betty grew up in Price, graduating from Carbon High in 1949 and continued her education at Carbon Junior College. She had resided in Raton, N.M. for the last 41 years. Betty worked for Dr. Armin Keil in Raton for several years and was also a volunteer with CASA. She was an active, involved member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church for many, many years. Betty was a loving, caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed. She deeply loved her family and they deeply loved her. She was the devoted and treasured wife of the late Harry Elkin. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Harry; and her beloved daughter, Gerrie Perry. She leaves behind to cherish her memory sons Harry (Sherri), Henderson, Nev., and John (Ailene), Green River, Wyo., seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Betty was also the dear, sweet sister of Nick (Cathy) Marakis, Goldie Bartlett and Mary (Clifford) Madsen. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and many, many good friends. Betty will always be remembered as the beautiful person she was, inside and out. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Raton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to Holy Trinity.
